Private Pilot Flight Training Course

Ohio Valley Flight Academy's Private Pilot course is designed to meet all the FAA requirements for a private pilot certificate. The syllabus has 50 hours of flight training, consisting of 30 hours of dual instruction and 20 hours of solo flight. Student pilots will receive the required training to prepare them for solo flight, cross-country flight, towered  controlled fields, night flights, and all specified maneuvers. Progress checks will be conducted throughout the student pilot flight training process. Your flight training will take about four to six months to complete if you schedule flight lessons 2 - 3 times each week.

The ground school course covers an introduction to the airplane and aerodynamics, aircraft systems, airports, communications and Air Traffic Control, weight & balance, meteorology, Federal Aviation Regulations, aeronautical charts, radio navigation, flight publications, the flight computer, medical factors of flight and cross country flight. Upon graduation from ground school, the student will be prepared for the FAA written examination. The ground school training will take seven weeks to complete and will prepare you to take and pass the FAA written exam that is required by all private pilots.

Student Pilot Solo Requirements

• Be at least 16 years of age
• Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
• Hold at least a third class medical and Student Pilot certificate

Private Pilot Graduation Requirements

• Be at least 17 years of age
• Hold at least a third class medical and Student Pilot certificate
• Passed a knowledge exam
• Demonstrate through flight tests and appropriate records that he has the knowledge, skill and experience to exercise the privileges of a private pilot safely
